The AHDC provides a tick evaluation service. It is important to identify a tick in order to understand what disease-causing agents (pathogens) the tick is capable of carrying and transmitting. Accurate identification of parasites benefits animals, their owners and veterinarians by helping to improve animal health.
The AVMA worked with microbiologists, epidemiologists, and species experts to identify bacteria affecting multiple animal species for which there is evidence of resistance to available antimicrobials. The resulting report, Antimicrobial-resistant pathogens affecting animal health in the U.S., can assist veterinary teams, producers, breeders, and animal owners with antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
Antimicrobial stewardship refers to actions taken to preserve the effectiveness and availability of antimicrobial drugs through responsible decision-making and conscientious oversight, while safeguarding animal, public, and environmental health.
Maintaining the effectiveness of antimicrobials approved for therapeutic use in animals requires attention to stewardship across the One Health spectrum, especially among leaders in veterinary medicine, animal production, and public health. This report includes actions that veterinarians and our teams, producers, breeders, and others seeking medical care for animals can take to collaboratively combat antimicrobial resistance.
The full report includes an overview of the impact of antimicrobial resistance on animal health in the U.S., report cards that summarize pathogens of concern for different host species, and a technical appendix.
These one-pagers, which are also included in the full report, provide basic information that supports antimicrobial stewardship for different host species. They are designed to be printed and posted in highly visible locations in veterinary practices and other facilities where animals are cared for. These summaries identify bacteria of particular risk, how to manage infections caused by them in the context of good stewardship, and their overall implications for animal health and welfare. For more information on specific pathogens, please reference the full report.
Resistance to antimicrobials has been identified for opportunistic, environmental, and commensal pathogens, such as Pasteurella, Streptococcus, E. coli, and Salmonella. Because these bacteria are ubiquitous in swine production, working with producers to consistently implement core principles of good swine health management is critical to prevent infections. These principles include not mixing pigs from different sources, adopting all-in/all-out management whenever practical, maintaining good hygiene, and minimizing environmental stresses due to temperature fluctuations and poor ventilation.

Healthy livestock are a vital part of agriculture and our rural communities. In Tennessee, the vast majority of farmers and livestock owners consider the welfare of their animals to be a top priority. However, when a citizen believes that livestock is being subjected to cruelty, that citizen can contact local law enforcement or file a complaint with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture through this website.
It is important to note that the Tennessee Department of Agriculture conducts welfare examinations only in livestock cases. The guidance provided on this website only applies to cattle, horses, swine, sheep, goats, poultry and other livestock. If your concern involves a dog, cat or companion animal, you must contact local authorities.
If an inspector with the Department of Agriculture determines there is probable cause for a criminal livestock cruelty investigation, TDA works with local authorities to seek resources for care of the animals.
At Maricopa County Animal Care & Control we know a thing or two about making connections and saving lives. Animal homelessness is a community problem that requires a community solution. Thanks to the efforts of this community, we save over 95% of our sheltered animals each year.

Since 1998, the World Organisation for Animal Health has the mandate from the WTO to officially recognise disease-free areas of countries for trade purposes. The procedure for the official recognition of animal health status by WOAH is voluntary and applies currently to six diseases
The procedure has since then been expanded to include the official recognition of animal health status for African horse sickness (AHS), classical swine fever (CSF), contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) risk status as well as the endorsement of official control programmes for CBPP, FMD, PPR and dog-mediated rabies.
A Member may either lose or enhance its commercial attractiveness in the eyes of potential or existing importing partners, depending on official recognition of its animal health status. By acquiring and maintaining its official status, a Member also demonstrates transparency and helps to promote animal health and public health worldwide, thereby gaining the trust of its partners and of the international community. 153554b96e
